The purpose of its establishment was to train and educate students, to offer possibility of learning about many species of herbaceous and woody plants of scientific importance, to cultivate interest and taste for beauty, to know the role that the plants play in life, and last but not least to provide an environment in which peace and beauty overcome stress. The park thus has a recreational and decorative role, and currently plays an important role in the conservation of a rich gene pool of plants. Among the native or non-native trees planted in the park it can be mentioned: <em>Gingko biloba<\/em>, <em>Abies alba<\/em>,<em> Picea pungens <\/em>var.<em> argentea<\/em>, <em>Pinus nigra<\/em>,<em> Pinus strobus<\/em>,<em> Larix dahurica<\/em>,<em> Chamaecyparis lawsoniana<\/em>, <em>Thuja occidentalis<\/em>,<em> Thuja orientalis<\/em>,<em> Taxus baccata<\/em>, <em>Quercus robur<\/em>, <em>Quercus rubra<\/em>, <em>Betula pendula<\/em>,<em> Juglans cinerea<\/em>,<em> J. nigra<\/em>,<em> Laburnum anagyroides<\/em>,<em> Sophora japonica<\/em>, <em>Aesculus hippocastanum<\/em>, <em>Tilia platyphylos<\/em> etc., iar dintre arbu\u015fti: <em>Juniperus chinensis<\/em>, <em>J. virginiana<\/em>, <em>Pinus mugo<\/em>,<em> Mahonia aquifolium<\/em>,<em> Spiraea <\/em>x <em>vanhouttei<\/em>,<em> Rosa <\/em>sp., <em>Chaenomeles japonica<\/em>, <em>Callicarpa bodinieri<\/em>, <em>C. japonica<\/em>,<em> C. americana<\/em>, <em>Ilex aquifolium <\/em>var.<em> heterophylla<\/em>, etc. The park has a classic-style corridor of short-cut <em>Buxus sempervirens<\/em>, platbands of roses, a grassy surface, main alleys covered with mosaic, numerous benches, and layers of multicolored ornamental flowers that give the park a special charm: <em>Begonia semperflorens <\/em>ssp.<em> nana<\/em>,<em> Salvia splendens<\/em>,<em> Petunia atkinsiana<\/em>, <em>Tagetes patula<\/em>,<em> Ageratum mexicanum<\/em>, <em>Canna indica<\/em>, etc.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Dendrological Park is located in front of the central building of the University and its surroundings, having an area of approximately 5 ha.
